We have received several questions related to the reunion so I thought we should address them in a FAQ.

Memory Book - missing names

We received several calls from people who did not realize that the book is set up in two sections: the front part includes people who sent in their biographies; the second section includes contact information for those who did not send in their bios. You will need to check both sections.

We did find that we had omitted all of the names after Tom Warner (the last name listed). There are about 30 people missing. We will send out an addendum shortly with those missing names and contact information.

Ed: They have now been sent out to everyone who attended the reunion.

Memory Book Corrections

Since we will be sending an addendum, anyone who noticed an error in their listing, please E-mail me as soon as possible and we will include any corrections at that time.

Reunion Photo Website - Snapfish.com

We have selected a commercial website for our reunion pictures - Snapfish.com. We sent an E-mail and an invite so that you can post your pictures, view other classmates pictures, and even purchase reunion pictures directly on the site.

However, we have discovered that there is a problem reaching the reunion group photos when people register directly with Snapfish.com without first responding to the invite. It seems to work fine if you follow the link from the invite you received. So go back to the E-mail that includes the invite and it should work. If you can't find the E-mail with the invite or are still having problems, contact me and I will try to assist.

Ed: As of February 6th, 29 albums have been posted to the Snapfish site and 244 people have visited the site.

It's Over

So here I am - 2:00 AM - sitting alone in my hotel room after hearing for the zillionth time how successful the reunion was. But I ask you, "How can any single guy feel that it was a successful event if he didn't get even one indecent proposal." I understand I don't have a wife to lend for $1 million, but that's not enough of an excuse for me.

Anyway Karen and I are truly happy that so many of you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves.

Here are a couple of preliminary notes:

1. The 40-year reunion was the largest reunion that our class has ever held - attendance was over 350.

2. After a minor audit and a bit of renegotiation, we should end up with a nice "excess of revenues over liabilities" a/k/a a net profit. We intend to leave a small amount to the next reunion committee and also make a donation to the high school.

3. As we were cleaning up, we found an additional box of Memory Books. We understand that a few people "misplaced" their copies. After we mail out the books to those who purchased the book, but didn't come to the reunion, we should have a clearer picture of what is still available.

4. If you are still interested in purchasing a reunion T-shirt, we still have a few available. Contact Karen and we will arrange a "special price."

5. According to the company we purchased the mortarboards from (that's the graduation hats), no one has ever done a recreation of the graduation processional before...and then to have the same person, Mr. Jim Simpson, give them out again 40 years later - well that was very special.

6. Stan "the man" Blake - thank you for adding a special humorous touch to our evening.

And finally for those who asked if I will be happy to see it all come to an end, I say NO, emphatically NO.

It has been a blast.

Too excited to sleep

It's 5:00 A.M. and I am too excited to sleep. The first night of our reunion weekend has ended and I couldn't be more pleased.

It wasn't the number of people who came up to me and Karen to thank us for all the hard work we had put into this reunion (though we did enjoy that too), it was the wide smiles on people's faces and the number of people who told us what a fabulous time they were having.

What was especially pleasing were the number of people who were attending a reunion for the very first time. Karen and I had made a special effort to reach out to those who felt rejected or neglected in high school. Forty years is a long time to carry negative memories. We wanted to help them remember the fonder thoughts that may have been buried beneath all the rest of the junk we carry around with us. From our conversations, the number of first timers was over 50. We hope we were able to help you reconnect with some of those more positive experiences.

And for those of us who are reunion junkies, it is so satisfying to reconnect every five or ten years with people who had such a large impact on our lives as we were growing up. Whether it was at a vacation you took together, a birthday party, cotillion, or just school time interaction, those memories bring a huge smile to our faces. For those who say that we "live in the past", I only wish them as many wonderful thoughts from their current experiences.

Tonight will generate a whole flood of different memories as we get the opportunity for extended conversations at our dinner tables. We may even have mixed memories as we dance to the 50's and 60's music with our classmates from those days. (How many of you can connect a special person with a particular song?)

Some of those memories may not be joyous. (Kathy Nelson and I had a special song that we shared together. Unfortunately Kathy is no longer with us). But others will remind us of happier times and for me, songs that still had words and a beat that you could dance to and sing - like "I told the Witch Doctor".

So If I am up again tomorrow night, I will reflect on day 2 of our our reunion weekend. Have a great weekend and a great lifetime.

Gables Cavaliers Win District Football Championship

This Should Bring Back Some Wonderful Memories

Coral Gables High School's football team won its first district championship in seventeen years when it defeated Miami Beach High 45 to 22 Thursday night. This win and Columbus' win over Miami High secured the District 14-6A championship for the Cavaliers and sent them to the playoffs for the first time in three years. The CGHS football team is coached by Joe Montoya. Congratulations to the entire football team and coaching staff. Go Cavs!

I heard thru the grapevine that you were thinking of not coming to the reunion....you must be kidding!!! I had so much fun seeing you when you came to ________, it was like it was yesterday and it had been about 30+ years. Can you imagine seeing all our old friends again, after 40 years! I'm sure many have changed, but you have not, you looked great and the same to me. Remember the lady at Tommy Bahamas thought we looked like sisters?! It will be a blast. If we can come from _______ you and your hubby should be able to come from _______. Wouldn't your mom be happy to see you too?! It sounds like the committee has gone to a lot of work and are planning some fun stuff and we need to get as many people to attend as possible. Hi Karen,
By way of identification, I am Jim Simpson. From 1962 through 1995, when I retired from Gables, I was the Director of Student Activities and a foot ball coach. From 1962 through 1968, I was also one of the basketball coaches. I retired from Gables in 1995, and my wife and I moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1999. Unfortunately, my wife passed away In January of this year.

I just spent some time on the Reunion Site, thus this e mail to you. The Class of 66 was one of the great Gables Classes. I am in the process of attempting to clear my calendar so that can attend your reunion. I am scheduled to visit my granddaughter and her new husband in California, in early January, 07. Hopefully, I can change my plans and attend your reunion.

Are there friends you would like to see at the reunion that are still missing. Try going to Zaba Search.com - http://216.52.81.211/ - and see who you can find?

Here is how I do it:

1. Go to advanced search
2. Put in their full name including maiden name for the ladies (middle initials do help)
3. Put in 1948 for the year of birth (this really narrows the search)
4. If you have their last known city and state or even just the state, this will also help.

Then push search.

The site will show variations of the name, addresses and often shows telephone numbers. Then I just pick up the telephone and call. If it isn't the right person I just apologize and move on.

If you don't find them, either broaden or narrow your search.

Coral Gables High Class of 1966 - WE HAVE A DATE!!!

The 40-year reunion of the Coral Gables High School Class of 1966 will be held on the weekend of January 12-14, 2007 (O.K. so technically it's our 41st year, but who's counting).

One of the reasons that weekend was chosen is that it coincides with the extra day off because of Martin Luther King Jr.s birthday. January 15th is a holiday, which will help some of you (and me) who are coming in from out-of-town. Also there were many (and I mean MANY) votes against having the reunion any time even close to hurricane season.

The plans are still being worked out, but it looks like there will be events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The committee in Miami still needs HELP. Karen and her group need volunteers to work on (or head up committees) for each of the events. Also if you have special expertise or connections let Karen know. Better yet, why don't you attend the next meeting? It will be held at Karen's South Miami home on Tuesday night, May 9th at 7:00 PM.

Reunion Update - April 2006

Sorry that I haven't had time to post any notices in the last couple of weeks. But aside from me being a CPA, my daughter shattered her knee in a national cheer competition - so my time has been taken up mostly with doctors and physical therapy.

The good news is that we have just crossed the 270 mark thanks to all of you. The Gables High Class of 1966 is well on its way to its biggest and best reunion ever.

Please check the list of classmates we have found. If you don't see one of your friends that you would like to see again after all these years, let me know and I will give you some ideas on how we have tracked down so many classmates in such a short time. My E-mail is artbcpa@aol.com.

Another Reason Why We Need Your Help

I wanted to share a recent story to emphasize why we need your help in finding our classmates.

As I was searching the web for information on holding a reunion and finding classmates, I came across the website for the 40-year reunion of Miami Coral Park High School. It made me think of how many of their students had actually been part of our lives. If you don't remember, Miami Coral Park High opened right before we went to high school. If you happened to live in the "wrong" boundary, then you were torn apart from many of the friends whom you had known since elementary school.

It made me think of one particular friend I had known since second grade - Steve Reinemund. Steve is now the Chairman of the Board of PepsiCo - parent company of Pepsi Cola and many other products you know.

So I called their offices and left a message with his secretary to see what has been going on with his life. (Yes, there if more to life than worldwide fame and money). Two days ago, Steve called me back and we reminisced for nearly 25 minutes about all the memories we had and personal things that had gone on during the past 40+ years. I then asked if he were going to his 40-year reunion at Miami Coral Park High. He said, "I didn't even know they were having one."

Of course I put him in touch with their committee. But it made me think. If the most famous alumni from a school had not even been contacted, how many students from our class will never know about our reunion. How many Steve Reinemunds are there at Coral Gables High that we will never have the opportunity to share our memories with?

Please send us the names of classmates who we do not have. It's been 40 years. Wouldn't it be a kick to hear what they have been doing and reminisce with old friends?

Yes, We are Having a 40-Year Reunion

Last weekend Karen (Corlett) McCammon - in Miami - and Art Berkowitz - in California - decided to jump-start the reunion process.

In one weekend, we contacted dozens of classmates who said they wanted to have a 40-year reunion.

If you want to participate on the reunion committee, send an E-mail to Karen (kcmccammon@msn.com). If you just want to see all of your old classmates and have a lot of fun, send your E-mail address to Art (artbcpa@aol.com). If you know someone who doesn't use E-mail, please send their telephone number and address to Art.

We don't know when; we don't know where; we don't even know how. But we will have a 40-year reunion if we all work together to make it happen.

We will try to post information about the reunion on this website to keep you informed about what is happening.
